David Horsfall

David Horsfall is a Director of Layard Horsfall Limited, which was originally established in Chancery Lane, in the heart of legal London, in 1984. The firm focused on major Scandinavian law firms and their blue chip companies, investing into UK real estate in the 1980's bull market.

In 1990 David became a partner with Edwin Coe a leading Lincolns Inn practice concentrating on real estate insolvency scenarios. He worked with Edwin Coe for 3 years, during the major property recession 1990 - 1993, before re-establishing Layard Horsfall in the City of London in 1993.

David's current practice is a mixture of commercial property trading, management and commercial property litigation.

He trained with Memery Crystal in London and thereafter practiced in Hong Kong with Munro Claypole and Reeves, having been admitted to the Hong Kong Bar in 1981.

David's guiding principle in legal practice is to produce business solutions to legal problems.

Recent Cases

• Sierra Leone Govt v Capricorn Financial Investments SA and others 2003 CHD London

Successfully defeated a major fraud claim brought by the SL Govt on behalf of the owner of a substantial property in London. Obtained substantial security for costs order against SL Govt.

• Gemini Investments v Botolph Estates and others QB London 2005

Successfully brought about the withdrawal of a conspiracy to defraud claim of circa £1m against the Defendant.

• Regina v Chubb 1996

Brought about the succcessful private prosecution of a solicitor for assault on behalf of a private client.

Notable Professional and business activities
David is the author of Litigation Funding - Chandos Press which was one of the first publications on the No Win No Fee revolution for the commercial property market.

David is an accredited mediator and qualified after studying existential psychotherapy theory as applied to conflict situations at Regent School of Psychotherapy in London
